Snowdrift Dreams

One winter morning in Yellowstone National Park, I came across a few photographers gearing up to explore a snow-covered meadow in search of foxes. After a quick chat, they invited me to join them, and we set off together. At the far end of the meadow, we spotted a red fox actively hunting in the snow. For hours, we followed it through near waist-deep snow, watching as it jumped and pounced through the snow in pursuit of voles. I captured this photo during a quiet moment when both the fox—and we—took a much-deserved break. It was a memorable day in one of my favorite parks, one that gifted me not only this beautiful image, but a few new friends as well.
