Anxiety
On an early summer day while searching for mountain goats in the Rocky Mountains, I came across a nanny and her young kid navigating the edge of a steep cliff. After watching the nanny effortlessly jump across a narrow gap, I was able to position myself and wait for the kid to follow to capture this striking image. What makes this image so powerful to me is the emotion it captures—the hesitation, contemplation, and anxiety the young goat must have felt before finding the courage to take the leap. As someone who lives with an anxiety disorder, I can deeply relate to that moment of fear and uncertainty, and the strength it takes to make that jump. And in case you’re wondering, yes, after a few moments of hesitation, the kid took the leap and successfully rejoined its mother.
