Tiny and Mighty

Northern pygmy owls are among the smallest owl species in the world, measuring just six to seven inches in length, or just about the size of a sparrow. Despite their size, they are fierce and efficient hunters that prey on a variety of small animals with impressive precision. Their boldness and agility make them fascinating subjects to observe and photograph. I'm fortunate to live in an area where these tiny predators can occasionally be found, giving me the chance to seek them out in the wild. I captured this striking portrait while following one as it moved from perch to perch, scanning the landscape in search of its next meal.
