Through the Storm

This was easily one of the most intense experiences I’ve had as a wildlife photographer. I took this photograph on a May afternoon just outside Grand Teton National Park, with a grizzly boar casually following a sow along a mountain pass road. Things quickly escalated as a snowstorm rolled in, and the boar became more aggressive in his pursuit. With heavy snow falling and the bears moving unpredictably, I followed them from the now-icy road. I was determined to get an image of the boar and saw my chance as he walked over a snow-covered berm heading in my direction. I seized the moment and captured this striking portrait—a powerful reminder of how wild and unpredictable these encounters can be.
